PlantQuest has partnered with a renowned biopharma facility in Ringaskiddy, Cork, Ireland. Operated by one of the world's leading pharmaceutical companies, the sites emergency response team often faced issues identifying the precise location of alarming devices. In turn, delays in alarm response and unnecessary evacuations.

The Challenge Faced

  • Time-critical search: Finding the exact device that triggered an alarm meant scrolling through complex, hard copy detector layout drawings while the clock ticked.

  • Navigation complexity: Even after locating the tag on paper, responders still had to work out the fastest, access-compliant route through a multi-building maze.

  • Cost of downtime: Every unnecessary evacuation or prolonged shutdown risked production losses of up to €40 k per hour and disrupted global supply schedules.

The Solution - PlantQuest OneView ERT Module

  • Complete digitisation of more than 35 legacy fire & gas-layout drawings into a single, searchable map.

  • Instant search & locate: Type a device ID and OneView zooms to the exact spot, indicating the exact location of the alarm in seconds.

  • Signal-free indoor navigation: PlantQuest provided the optimal routes from the ERT room to any alarm across the site, dynamically avoiding restricted zones and informing the responder of any access requirements ahead of time ensuring they had the full context required for a swift response.

  • Rapid rollout with zero disruption: The project was delivered remotely by utilising existing site drawing with only two on-site days to commission the system ensuring no interruption to daily operations.

The Outcome & Impact

  • ≈ 60 % faster alarm-to-device time resulting in a much swifter, optimal and safer emergency response operation.

  • Unnecessary evacuations now rare, responders are now at the scene of an alarm alarms in minutes and are able to verify false alarms and prevent evacuations.

  • Six-figure euro savings were experienced in a matter of months by preventing downtime and evacuation costs.

Together with the SAP-PM integration and RFID visualisation projects, the Fire & Gas solution gives the site one authoritative platform for locating, navigating and responding—whether it’s routine maintenance and training, or a time-critical emergency.
